Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Better Teeth Whitening

Ayurvedic &
Teeth Whitening :-

Many methods are known to the Indian science of Ayurveda by which a person can get the whiteness of teeth back.

There are also methods to maintain Teeth Whitening.

(1) Useful Herbs for Whitening of Teeth

1. Babul (Acacia arabica) :-

The importance of babul in Teeth Whitening cannot be expressed in words. It is so much important in Ayurveda for this purpose that the ancient Indians used nothing but the twigs of the babul (the other tree used for this is neem) as disposable toothbrushes. The tannin present in babul is effective in increasing the whiteness of teeth.

2. Banyan (Ficus religiosa) :-

The aerial roots of the banyan can also be used as disposable toothbrushes. The banyan roots have astringent properties, which not only make the teeth whiter, but also make the teeth and gums healthier.

3. Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) :-

The leaves of the holy basil are dried in the sun and powdered and used for brushing teeth. The leaves help in maintaining dental hygiene and make the teeth whiter. Apart from the whitening properties, holy basil is also used for protection from problems such as pyorrhea (i.e. bleeding of gums).

4. Margosa (Azadirachtha indica) :-

The neem tree, or the margosa, is a traditional remedy for having white healthy teeth. Neem twigs are used by several Indians even today as toothbrushes. Neem oils contain astringent and antiseptic properties to fight bad breath, kill microorganisms accumulated on the teeth and to combat dental caries and cavities.

(2) Dietary Methods for Teeth Whitening :-

To keep the teeth clean and white, pungent, bitter and astringent foods must be included in the daily diet.

These tastes have an astringent effect on the teeth which helps to maintain them clean. They also take care of the excess buildup of plaque on the teeth, which makes them lose their pearly white color.

Sugary foods in any form are bad for the teeth.

Chocolates are also not good. If you do consume such foods, you must remember to wash your mouth thoroughly with strong gargles so as not to leave any sweet residue in the mouth.

Avoid excess tea and coffee.

These beverages contain strong alkaloids which can stain the teeth.

The same is applicable to smoking. Almost every person who smokes will lose the white coloration of the teeth.

Chewing of the paan (betel leaf), as is done in several Indian regions, is also disastrous to the whiteness of the teeth.
This habit can stain the teeth cream, yellow or even a dirty shade of rust brown.

Teeth Whitening Strips For Our Better Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening Strips are a very effective way to whiten our teeth.

Getting Professional Teeth Whitening from Dentist, is also best way.

The products themselves state that you can whiten your teeth one or two shades using them, right in the comfort of our home.

But,This may depend on the type of staining a person has on their teeth or what their perception of different shades of white are on their teeth.

Teeth staining caused by antibiotic use as a child will generally not lighten, but coffee and smoke stains will lighten.

Teeth Whitening Strips are good Teeth Whitening Product.

They are not custom-fitted to your mouth like trays. The polyethylene strips are somewhat rigid and can make it difficult to get the product into the crevices of the teeth.

The part of the enamel that is in more contact with the product will whiten significantly more than other areas that may be hard to reach.

Another thing to consider is the concentration of the whitening agent.

Some strips have only 6% hydrogen peroxide and others have 10%.

You can get faster results with the 10%, but they don’t necessarily whiten your teeth more than the 6% product because it’s still hydrogen peroxide.

If you use the 6% product for a longer period of time, like the recommend, you can get similar results. So, the 10% may appear to work better and it works faster.

If you are looking for a product that whitens all your teeth, then the strips won’t do it.

They are only for the top front and lower bottom teeth that you see when you smile.

The trays are used to whiten all teeth, but you have to get fitted for one by a dentist and they are more expensive than the strips.

About Laser Teeth Whitening

Laser Teeth Whitening :-

Laser teeth whitening is a relatively new teeth whitening system. It is a good process by which to clean teeth, and it can be the most effective over a long term.

It is undertaken by carefully protecting gums by the use of a gum dam and then the chlorine peroxide is applied to the teeth.

The laser light oxidizes the chlorine peroxide which then impregnates the enamel of the course of the hours treatment.

Once the laser has finished the dioxide is then removed and the gum dam is then taken off to reveal a great smile and wonderful white teeth.

Teeth Whitening treatment is used in cases where normal brushing, flossing and other means of dental hygiene don’t work as they should.

Over time, the enamel of teeth tends to erode due to the foods we eat and the liquids we drink.

Tooth enamel is the substance that coats our teeth to prevent them from decay. Laser teeth whitening is one method to get rid of the built-up stains and plaque.

The Process of Laser Teeth Whitening :-

Teeth are scraped as clean as they can possibly be with conventional instruments like picks. This is to lessen the work the laser process has to do during laser teeth whitening.

Next, a coating of hydrogen peroxide or other bleaching agent is lightly applied to the teeth near the gum line. This is basically preparatory work for the actual laser to do its job.

After the initial coating of peroxide is applied in laser teeth whitening, a slightly heavier coat of chemical-based gel is put on the teeth. The gel is to ensure that the laser is able to perform as well as possible and remove as much plaque as can be done.

The next step in laser teeth whitening is the actual laser – it works in conjunction with the gel and peroxide, rather than as a stand-alone agent. Most of the time, the entire process takes approximately an hour. It’s worth the wait – laser teeth whitening can whiten teeth by up to 10 shades.

If you have sensitive teeth, they can be damaged by the laser, though this only happens rarely. However, you may need to repeat the process of laser teeth whitening several times to get the full effect.

People with sensitive teeth would be best advised to do the entire treatment in one session to avoid using the gel, because it sometimes can have a bad reaction with teeth.

Using Teeth Whitening to Improve Your Smile

Teeth Whitening & Its Techniques :-

A growing number of people are interested in exploring teeth whitening techniques, and for good reason.

After all, the first thing most people notice when they meet a person is his or her smile, and tarnished teeth can certainly leave a bad impression. Before exploring teeth whitening techniques, however, it is a good idea to understand what can cause tooth discoloration to occur.

Extrinsic Stains :-

Discoloration that occurs on the surface of the teeth is referred to as extrinsic staining.

Extrinsic stains can occur in a number of different ways. Some of these include :-

• Drinking dark-colored beverages
• Eating certain types of foods
• Smoking or chewing tobacco
• Routine wear and tear

Many foods and drinks can lead to discoloration in the teeth, but some of the most common foods and drinks include coffee, cola, red wine, oranges, carrots, and any other food that is deeply-colored.

These types of stains are generally considered to be minor and can often be removed with simple brushing or by using prophylactic dental cleaning techniques. In some cases, however, it may be necessary to purchase a teeth whitening stain in order to remove these types of stains. This is particularly true if the staining has been in place for quite some time or if the staining has penetrated into the dentin.

Intrinsic Stains :-

Intrinsic stains are those stains that form within the teeth. These types of stains can result in a number of ways, including :-

• Aging
• Trauma
• Exposure to certain minerals while the teeth are forming
• Excessive use of fluoride

Aging is one of the major causes of intrinsic stains because the teeth darken from wear and tear as well as from the long term accumulation of stains. Therefore, a teenager is more likely to experience more immediate results from teeth whitening than someone in his or her twenties or older.

By the time a person reaches his or her forties, the yellow stains that develop while younger may become brown and will be far more difficult to remove.

Experts once believed that intrinsic stains could not be removed with teeth whitening products, but breakthroughs in techniques have made it possible to get rid of these stains as well.

Generally removing these types of stains require implementing sustained teeth whitening techniques over a period of several months and possibly up to a year.

Of course, a person's starting tooth color is also a factor in determining how easily the teeth can be whitened.

Everyone has a natural tooth color that can be a yellow-brownish color or even a greenish-grey color. Over time, these colors will become more intense. Still, with teeth whitening techniques, it is possible to remove these natural colors as well.

Whether tooth stains are intrinsic or extrinsic, it is possible to make the teeth look brighter and whiter with teeth whitening techniques.
